Going District-Wide: Lessons Learned While Leading District Instructional Coaches

  1. Instructional Coaching is most effective when tied to a pedagogical protocol.

  2. Instructional Coaching cycles are goal-focused and agreed upon between the coach and the teacher.

  3. Instructional Coaching is not supervisory

  4. Instructional Coaching is focused on pedagogy.

  5. The Expert Model is mentoring not Instructional Coaching.

  6. Instructional Coaching is most effective when 2 (or more) experienced teachers work together to learn new pedagogy.

  7. Instructional Coaching moves ideas to implementation.




We might be well served by changing the term (at least in our minds) to Collaborative Coaching.
